About Heart Failure

Heart failure is when the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood through the heart to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen. It is a serious condition – one that may get worse over time.

The most common causes of heart failure are coronary heart disease (CHD), high blood pressure, past heart attacks, and diabetes. Lifestyle factors – like smoking, being overweight, eating foods high in fat and cholesterol and physical inactivity – may also increase the risk of heart failure.

There is no cure for heart failure. But many people diagnosed with heart failure go on to lead full lives.
